Discover the wild heart of East Africa on a journey from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro. This adventure takes you through flamingo-filled lakes, the legendary Masai Mara, the endless plains of the Serengeti, and the dramatic Ngorongoro Crater. Along the way, encounter the Big Five, glide across Lake Victoria, and end beneath the snow-capped peak of Africa’s tallest mountain. A safari that blends thrill, culture, and breathtaking scenery  truly the ultimate African expedition.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi
Activities:
  • Airport pickup and transfer to your hotel.
  • Depending on arrival time, optional visits:
    • Karen Blixen Museum – colonial history + coffee farm landscapes.
    • Giraffe Centre – close-up interaction with Rothschild giraffes.
    • David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage – orphaned elephant calves.
    • Nairobi National Museum – Kenyan culture, prehistory, and ethnography.
Unique features:
  • Nairobi is the world’s only capital city with a national park at its doorstep.
  • Excellent dining options with Kenyan and international fusion menus.
Day 2: Nairobi - Lake Nakuru
Driving time: 3–4 hours. En-route highlights:
  • Great Rift Valley Viewpoint (Top-stop at Mai Mahiu) – panoramic views of the valley floor, volcanic cones, and escarpments.
  • Mt. Longonot (view) – extinct stratovolcano.
Afternoon activities:
  • Game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park
    • Famous for black and white rhinos.
    • Rothschild giraffes, lions, buffaloes.
    • Flamingos (seasonal), pelicans, and diverse birdlife.
Unique features:
  • High concentration of rhinos.
  • The soda lake gives stunning pink hues when flamingos gather.
Day 3: Lake Nakuru - Lake Naivasha
Driving time: 1–1.5 hours. Activities around Lake Naivasha:
  • Boat ride on Lake Naivasha
    • See hippos, fish eagles, birdlife.
  • Crescent Island Walking Safari
    • Walk among giraffes, waterbuck, zebras—no predators.
  • Possible afternoon at Hell’s Gate National Park
    • Cycling between dramatic cliffs.
    • Hot springs and geothermal towers.
    • Inspiration site for Disney’s The Lion King.

  • Naivasha is one of Kenya’s premier birding lakes.
  • Beautiful acacia forests and open plains.
Day 4: Lake Naivasha - Masai Mara
Driving time: 5–6 hours. En-route highlights:
  • Pass through Narok, the Maasai cultural heartland.
  • Views of rolling plains as you approach the Mara ecosystem.
Afternoon activity:
  • Sunset game drive in Masai Mara.

  • Begin spotting big cats early—Mara has dense lion populations.
Day 5: Full Day Masai Mara
Activity Full-day game drive to the Mara River (Wildebeest migration crossing point, seasonal). Optional activities:
  • Visit a Maasai village (Manyatta) for cultural immersion.
  • Balloon safari (early morning).
Wildlife expectations:
  • Big Five: lions, elephants, rhinos (rare), buffaloes, leopards.
  • Cheetahs on open plains.
  • Endless herds of plains game
Day 6: Masai Mara → Mara Siria Escarpment (Walking Safari)

  • Move to camp/lodge on the stunning Siria Escarpment—overlooking the Mara River and plains.

Day 7: Masai Mara → Isibania Border → Lake Victoria

  • Cultural visits with local communities (Sukuma).

Excellent birdlife including cormorants and kingfishers
Day 8: Lake Victoria → Canoe → Serengeti
Activities:
  • Early morning canoe experience:
    • See fishing boats, early markets, aquatic birds.
  • Drive into the Western Corridor of Serengeti National Park.
En-route highlights:
  • Ihara River area known for massive herds during migration.
  • Possible sightings of topis, elephants, crocodiles.

  • The corridor is lesser-visited, offering quieter game viewing.
Day 9: Full Day in Serengeti
Activities:
  • Full-day game drives in Central Serengeti (Seronera).
  • Explore open plains and kopjes (rock outcrops).

  • Abundant lions and cheetahs.
  • Resident herds of wildebeests and zebras.
Day 10: Another Full Day in Serengeti
  • Explore different regions: Full day game drive at Serengeti National park.
    • Mor Kopjes – lions on rocks.
    • Retina Hippo Pool – dozens of hippos in one spot.
    • Golden savannah plains offering perfect photography.

  • Endless horizon landscapes—true “Out of Africa” scenery.
Day 11: Serengeti → Ngorongoro Crater (via Olduvai Gorge)
En-route highlights:
  • Stop at Olduvai Gorge, the cradle of humankind.
    • Museum visit.
    • Viewpoint of archaeological excavation sites.
    • Learn about early hominid fossils discovered by Louis and Mary Leakey.
  • Continue to Ngorongoro Conservation Area while viewing:
    • Maasai villages.
    • Highland scenery.

Day 12: Descend Ngorongoro Crater → Karatu
Activities:
  • Early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater.

  • High chance to see endangered black rhinos.
  • Huge lion population.
  • Flamingos on Lake Magadi.

Afternoon:
  • Drive to Karatu, a green, mountain-side town with coffee farms.
Optional activities:
  • Coffee farm tour.
  • Visit the local markets.
Day 13: Karatu → Tarangire (Full Game Drive & Overnight)
Morning:
  • Depart Karatu after breakfast.
  • Drive to Tarangire National Park (approx. 1.5 hours).
  • Enter the park for a full game drive.
What to expect in Tarangire:
  • One of Tanzania’s highest concentrations of elephants—large family herds around the Tarangire River.
  • Iconic baobab trees scattered across rolling savannah.
  • Abundant wildlife including:
    • Lions, leopards (less common), cheetahs (occasional)
    • Giraffes, buffalos, zebras, wildebeests
    • Oryx, kudu, hartebeests
    • Over 500 bird species—superb birdwatching.
Afternoon:
  • Continue with your game drive, especially around the Tarangire River, which attracts animals throughout the day.
  • Proceed to your lodge/camp inside or near Tarangire.
Evening:
  • Relax at the lodge, enjoy sundowners overlooking baobabs or the river valley.
  • Overnight in Tarangire.
Day 14: Tarangire → Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO)
Morning:
  • Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your lodge or camp inside/near Tarangire.
  • Optional short game drive if time allows—elephants, giraffes, baobab landscapes, and morning predators on the move.
Drive:
  • Depart Tarangire and begin the journey toward Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
  • Drive time: 3.5–4.5 hours depending on your lodge location and traffic near Arusha.
En-route highlights:
  • Scenic views of Maasai steppe plains.
  • Pass through Makuyuni and Arusha, with optional stops:
    • Local craft markets (Tinga Tinga art, Maasai beadwork).
    • Coffee plantations near Usa River (quick photo or coffee tasting stop if time permits).
  • On clear days you may see the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru.
Arrival:
  • Drop-off at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your international flight.
  • End of safari program.
