Volcanoes National Park is a protected area in northwestern Rwanda, famous worldwide as the premier destination for mountain gorilla trekking and volcanic landscapes. It protects part of the Virunga Massif, a chain of volcanoes that extends across the borders with Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The park covers about 160 km² (62 sq miles) and lies roughly 2 hours’ drive from Kigali.
